Extraction of the Lachine Marina

About the project
Led by the City of Montreal, the Lachine Marina decommissioning project marks the first step in creating the new Lachine waterfront park. This large-scale initiative aims to transform the site into a natural space that promotes access to the water for non-motorized water sports. The marina’s removal was planned in an environmentally responsible manner to minimize the ecological impact of the work. This new green space will play a key role in protecting biodiversity and enhancing the landscape, offering residents of the Lachine borough a welcoming and attractive riverside environment.
Environmental responsibility and technical performance
The project involved the demolition and recovery of equipment, furniture, and both mineral and organic surfaces. Reusable equipment and furniture were returned to the City for future reuse and value enhancement.
Protecting vegetation at the heart of the work
Protective structures were installed prior to the start of construction to prevent damage to existing vegetation, in full compliance with strict regulatory and environmental standards.
Rehabilitation with precision and responsibility
Located within a sensitive marine zone, the decommissioning of the marina was carried out according to rigorous environmental rehabilitation protocols, in compliance with the Environment Quality Act. Excavation work specifically targeted contaminated soil layers, and backfilling was completed following a meticulous chemical analysis of the soil. INDYCO also managed the treatment of contaminated water with the utmost precision and expertise, demonstrating the confidence placed in our company for the execution of this project.
INDYCO is proud to have contributed to this initiative, which is transforming the site into a natural, accessible, and sustainable space for the citizens of Lachine.
This project perfectly embodies Indyco’s mission: to protect and revitalize our natural environments.
